The Soulmate Equation - Christina Lauren

Enemies to lovers, single mom, sweet romance

Review:

Do you believe there is someone in this world genetically destined to be your soulmate? Or do you fall on the side of fate bringing you and your person together regardless of genetics? These are some of the questions Christina Lauren’s The Soulmate Equation poses. The idea that an app can connect you with dating matches based on a DNA sample is such a unique twist to dating apps that I couldn’t put it down.

Jess Davis was such a strong and independent character that you couldn’t help but root for her to find the love she deserves. As a single mom, her dating life has been anything but easy and when she signed up for the GeneticAlly dating app she never expected to get the highest match percentage in the history of the app - and she definitely didn’t expect it to be with the apps founder and the grumpy regular at her coffee house, River Peña.

River was such a lovable grump. Both of them were slow to open up to each other, but that made their slow-burn shine even brighter. Even with their initial dislike of each other their nerdy, smart chemistry was off the charts. The best part of the book for me though was River’s relationship with Jess’s daughter, Juno. He wasn’t scared to jump in and help when needed and you could feel their friendship developing in the innocent and pure way it can only with a child.

Jess’s support system was such a sweet part of the book - her grandparents were so pure and the kind most people can only wish for. Her romance novel writing best friend, Fizzy, truly deserves her own book - she was such a cheerleader for Jess through the entire book and she made me laugh out loud more than once.

I loved the more complex undertone of fate vs genetics and how it explored what would happen if an app based on your genetics tells you one thing but your gut is telling you another. How many choices we would discard if an app told us our genetics didn’t fit or how many things would we force if we were told they should fit?

If you’re looking for a heartwarming enemies to lovers romance, this is absolutely your next read!
