Notes On An Execution - Danya Kukafka

Book Club Book 4 📚

Review:

I went into this one with extremely low expectations because it’s not typically a subject manner I would read, but wound up pleasantly surprised - it was not at all what I expected.

In a world where people romanticize and hyper-focus on serial killers, this book switches the narrative and focuses on the victims' lives pre, during, and post the killer entering their lives.

Thoughts:

-Kukafka showed Ansel’s psychotic behavior well and how he learned how to manipulate people into believing he had feelings and emotions

-All of the women he affected had heartbreaking stories and seeing how Ansel’s choices affected them differently was incredibly interesting and painful

-This book opened a debate on the ethics of the death penalty in an impactful way. It showed how it can impact people on all sides of the coin - the victim's family, the law enforcement representative, the person on death row, and that person’s family

Notes On An Execution was an extremely thought-provoking book and I highly recommend it for a book club because it leaves room for deep conversations.
