Love and Other Words - Christina Lauren

Friends to lovers, then&now, heartache and rebuilding

Review:

This book knocked me on my ass. Love and Other Words alone is worth the hype behind Christina

Lauren. Told through alternating then and now chapters, Elliot and Macy’s story is beautifully written

and emotionally charged.

Positives:

-There was so much pain and heartbreak between Macy and Elliot, but an equal amount of love to make up for it. Their heartache and longing leapt off every page

-Elliot. Ooph. He is such a good book boyfriend. His love was all-consuming both in the then and now

-Their bond over books and words was so innocent and beautiful. Their reading closet felt like its own

world we got invited into

-The wedding scene was EVERYTHINGGG. I knew as soon as he invited her it was going to be good, but holy hell 🤯

-This book showed the messiness of young love and how tragedies can alter someone's entire sense of

themselves

-I loved that the characters were not flawless - they both made mistakes and broke each other. Neither was faultless and that’s what made their characters and relationship so believable and real

Negatives:

-The reason their relationship ended when they were young felt gross and like a weak excuse to try to

create the needed conflict. Without giving too much away, I hated how even in the present Elliot was taking responsibility for a mistake when it was actually him getting seriously taken advantage of

-As much as I loved Macy and Elliot together, Macy was annoying at points

This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions and I could not recommend it more!
